As you may know, ChatGPT by OpenAI has two plans:

  1. free plan which uses the AI language model of version 3.5
  2. paid Plus plan which uses the latest version 4 of the AI language model

It’s not a secret that OpenAI is primarily “owned” by Microsoft and naturally, Microsoft wanted to benefit from the extreme popularity of ChatGPT, so they quickly integrated ChatGPT into their search engine called Bing to compete with Google’s dominance in this field. The best part of this competition is that Microsoft integrated into Bing the latest and most powerful version of ChatGPT’s AI model, version 4 for free. Microsoft Bing combines AI with search features, but in the background, it’s the same version as in the paid plan of OpenAI’s product ChatGPT Plus. Bing AI even works without an account (The OpenAI website requires a registration with a verified email and phone number for ChatGPT).

So you as a customer can utilize this competition, but there is a caveat you should be aware of: Microsoft forces you to use Microsoft Edge as the browser for Bing AI (or the app for smartphones).

Not everyone uses Microsoft Edge, but luckily, this obstacle can be overcome with my free open-source scripts (extensions) that I developed recently. If you use Google Chrome or a Chromium browser (Brave, Vivaldi, Opera …), you can use Bing AI after installing this extension: Bing AI for Chrome.

For Mozilla Firefox, you can install this extension: Bing AI for Firefox.

Of course, there are some differences between Bing AI and ChatGPT Plus, but they run the same AI language model in the background. Which product do you prefer?
